As everyone knows, when the sun starts to come out in the summer, so do the examiners. Older students everywhere are stuck inside, cramming from 100 year old textbooks while the ice cream man tempts them from outside. It’s always difficult to get into revision mode when all you want to do is slouch around, watching bad TV and eating everything in the fridge, but here at Dancemania we’ve put together some tips to help make he painful process a little easier…
GO OUTSIDE!
Try taking the books and work outside, if it’s nice weather. It will take you away from the distractions inside, and it might feel like you don’t actually have that much work.
MAKE LISTS!
Make lists of all the things you need to revise or do, into a sensible order, so you know what you need to do and when you need to do it, this will make things 1000% easier.
LISTEN TO MUSIC!
Listen to music while working. However if you find song lyrics distracting, try only instrumentals or wordless music, it can help with concentration.
STAY HYDRATED!
You’ve probably heard it a million times before but DRINK LOTS. Keeping you hydrated helps with the brain work (but stay away from the alcohol, that might not be so helpful) Check out our fabulous water bottles to hold your revision beverage of choice!
TAKE A BREAK!
Take breaks. If you find it difficult to work for a long time, work for around half an hour then take a 5-10 minute break, then repeat. But if you’re one of those mutant people that can work for hours straight, then you’re good, keep doing that!
DON’T DO IT ALONE!
Don’t exclude yourself, get together with some friends or people doing the same exam as you and test each other, make up quick questions and see who does best.
BE SELECTIVE!
Go through all the topics you’ll need to know for the exam, and write down the bits you personally need to work on most, focus on those. If you’re really confident on a certain bit, you don’t need to worry about it so much.
BE CREATIVE!
Find new and better ways to revise, other than the normal boring ones like re-reading and re-writing notes. Find a way that works for you, and helps you remember best, like making up rhymes or songs or finding websites that will help.
GO ONLINE!
Speaking of websites, here’s a few that might be useful for GSCE and A-Level students…
• BBC Bitesize
• S-cool
• Revision World
• MyMaths
• SAM Learning (you need a login from your school for this)
Hopefully these tips will help you on your way to getting the grade you want, and to anyone doing exams out there – good luck!
